There\u2019s this idea, I think we all fall victim to, that once we achieve something or get something we\u2019ve always wanted that we\u2019ll finally be happy \u2013 but that\u2019s never the case. It\u2019s always, what\u2019s next, I want more. This job can get very hard, very fraught, and I guess I had anticipated doing the thing I love most as my job would be easier and more fulfilling than this. \u2018Everything I Wanted\u2019 is me coming to terms with that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The single\u2019s artwork was designed by Dublin-based, self-taught embroidery artist Domino Whisker, whose vivid, emotionally charged tapestries explore themes of memory, healing, and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the cathartic punch of first single \u201cRoobosh\u201d and the wistful tenderness of its successor \u201cPretty,\u201d the new single arrives with a sense of reckoning that runs throughout <em>Altar<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NewDad - Roobosh\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7iZ4E4faWTk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NewDad - Pretty\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QOeTyiTjy3g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Written across the aftermath of NewDad\u2019s relocation from Galway to London, the record weighs sacrifice against ambition, and identity against survival. For Dawson, who still feels the pull of home daily, Altar is both a love letter to Galway and a document of the emotional cost of leaving it behind. \u201cThe album itself is where I divulge my love for home,\u201d she explains. \u201cIt\u2019s the idea that Ireland is the altar and it\u2019s the thing that I worship, in a way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thematically, the record sits in the push-and-pull between dream and reality: homesickness and healing (\u201cPretty\u201d), rage and release (\u201cRoobosh\u201d), self-doubt and resilience (\u201cEverything I Wanted\u201d). Sonically, it finds NewDad expanding their sound into sharper, more pop-leaning spaces while retaining the immersive dream-pop textures that first made them one of Ireland\u2019s most exciting young bands. Produced and half co-written by Shrink (Sam Breathwick), with the second half co-written alongside Justin Parker, <em>Altar<\/em> is the band\u2019s boldest, most confident statement yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since their debut single \u201cHow\u201d in 2020, NewDad \u2013 Julie Dawson (vocals\/guitar), Sean O\u2019Dowd (guitar), and Fiachra Parslow (drums) \u2013 have steadily built a global reputation for their immersive alt-rock. Their acclaimed 2024 debut <em>Madra<\/em> saw them tour extensively across the UK, Europe, Asia and North America, supporting heavyweights like Pixies, The War on Drugs, and Fontaines D.C. Along the way, they\u2019ve earned 80M+ streams, become mainstays at Radio 1 and 6Music, and even won the admiration of their hero Robert Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, with <em>Altar <\/em>&#8211; a reflection on identity, sacrifice, and the tension between comfort and ambition &#8211; NewDad are poised to showcase an even bolder evolution and reach new creative heights.
